Verdict

The King of Pop was acquitted on all ten of the charges against him. So what! This trial was just one big soap opera that for 18 months served to distract the citizenry from all the important issues like electing a president, protecting social secutity and the Iraq quagmire. It was a monumental waste of time and energy with the result as inevitable clear as a California sky. Michael Jackson is untouchable and always will be. He is a middle age loony who runs his fantasy ranch like a motel with a sign out front that reads "children accepted. He had the best lawyers, investigators, jury consulants, and oh yes, Jesse Jackson was on his side. The trial was not a search for the truth! It was a contest that produced no winners and the verdict was as misguided as it was predictable. The real trial was about a celebrity, not what he did or did not do to the accuser. It was a disappointment to many, no jail time, no cuff's, just off to Neverland to party. The outcome really made Republican's mad, they don't like black people unless they are standing on the lawn in a jockey uniform and made of metal. I suppose some Republican's are happy, they see MJ as just another rich guy and they love rich guys.
Michael Jackson will join his friend OJ and devote his remaining days to finding the real comitter of this crime. We will not have to watch him collapsing like a three legged card table any more. Perhaps we will see some real news once again. Michael Jackson free at last, free at last, now he and Bubbles can do what ever they want.

Self Evident Truths

I am old enough now, that I try not to judge other people's bodies. Keeping track of my ever expanding form is hard enough. Bathing suit weather has just arrived and with it I bring out my baggy sufer shorts. No I do not own a pair of speedos. Any woman will tell you, 99% of males over the age of 12 don't need to wear a speedo to the beach. On the flip side, rarely do I see a woman in a bikini who I think should be wearing one. Summer has long been a season of unsightly sights, over weight men in speedos and love handled women in bikinis. I still think people look better in winter under a extra layer of wool
In most of Europe and South America no one cares what you wear to the beach or if you wear anything at all. Most women don't wear tops and no one seems to pay any attention, but I guess that is not always a pretty sight. But this is America where politicians protect us from ourselves. Democracy is not always pretty either. I'll just stick with my baggy surfer shorts till I build my own private hot tub then I won't wear anything at all.

Field of Yellow

Living in the country, thirty miles from the city has lots of advantages, this field of flowers is one of them. I took this picture only a few feet from my front door. The picture reminds me of words spoken by Emily Car "Look at the yellow earth, crowded with growth, new and old, bursting from their strong roots hidden and silent. Live ground, each seed according to it's kind, each knowing what to do, each one demanding it's own rights on earth. Let your roots creep fourth gaining strength from the golden sunlight"
. As the May rain fades so will this patch of flowers. The seeds from the flowers will lay dormant until next year when a new crop of flowers will arise and once again return the field into a sea of yellow.

Common Ground

The Democrats are in a terrible mess. They nominated a Catholic for president only to lose the Catholic vote. They have spent the last 40 years as the main legislative party yet shut out of power in Congress. They became a progressive party only to find themselves uncomfortable in that role. Now the Republicans are running Congress with the kind of iron hand that the Democrats used for 40 years. The Democrats salvation may be in their role as guardian of Social Security but in doing so they are becoming the poster child for the filibuster. The campain to save the filibuster is the modern day version of save the whales. It has become a big part of the Democrats road show. I will admit the Republicans are arrogant with their powers but to say they are unfair because the want to change the filibuster rule is wrong.
The battle over the right to filibuster reminds me of the words from a Kris Kristofferson song "Let the devil take tomorrow help me make it thru the night" or maybe this line "I don't care whats right or wrong I don't try to understand". The filibuster has been with us for 200 years. It's gives the minority time to rally voters to their side, what's wrong with that? The fight over federal judges will look like Little League compared to the battle over the Supreme Court appointments.
Every time a big filibuster is in sight, the Capital custodians pull out cots and roll them into Congress. This is not Hollywood and Mr Smith Goes To Washington, asking Senators to stay on their feet for days knowing they can not is like asking rabbits not to mate.
Something needs to be done to get things moving before the battle for the Supreme Court takes place. At least for now a compromise has been reached, but you can be assured the Capital custodians will be rolling a load of cots into Congress when the battle for the Supreme Court judges starts.
