Assault Weapons

The 10 year old law banning 19 types of semiautomatic weapons expired this week. This is terrible, the last thing we need is an assault weapon of any type on our streets. It dose not matter if they have a flash suppressor or not. We do not need any of them. The law was really a meaningless law, it did not accomplish what the general public thought it did. Semiautomatic guns will fire every time you pull the trigger limited only by the number of rounds in the clip. Automatic guns will fire all the rounds in the clip simply by holding the trigger down. The public thought the ban kept both kinds of guns off our streets but it did not! The automatic has been banned from the general public for 70 years ever since the 1934 machine gun law was enacted. The gun that is on the market after the law expired has the same performance characteristic of the gun that you could buy the last 10 years. The only difference is that for ten years the gun could not have a flash suppressor. folding stock or 30 round clip. I am all for the second amendment and ever thing it stands for, every American the right to bare a gun, but there is no reason anyone needs a semiautomatic assault weapon for anything.
