It's Raining on Major League Baseball
Ever have someone spit in your face and tell you it's raining? Well that's how I feel when people start talking about the greatness of Major League Baseball. Opening Day for the 2008 season took place this week along with it's sanctimonious fraud, meant to absolve those at the top and pin blame on trainers and clubhouse attendants. Baseball has always lived in a fantasy land when it comes to the use of steroids. If there was ever a hint of a steroid problem, it was dismissed as a minor nuisance. All that could change if MLB improves it's reputation by starting the season with a new net, one that not only catches the minnows but also stops the whales from swimming free. For baseball the most important task is to insure that steroid use ends. No player should feel he has to cheat to keep up. They should never have to risk their health for the game of baseball. Opening Day will come again next year and the year after that but I will not be fooled by the talk of it's greatness because I know the difference between spit and rain.
