Pieces of Fabric

I recently attended a Quilt Show at the Texas State Capital. As I rode the Capital elevator down two floors to the underground Capital Extension I thought about the few quilts I have owned. What is it about quilts that makes people love them so much? Maybe it's the extraordinary use of color or the patterns that come together to form a picture. My fascination with quilts comes from the fabric, where and what the fabric came from. Quilts are often made of fabric that used to be something else, an old shirt, old bedspread or pieces of an old garment that are still good enough to be part of something new.
Once you have been to a quilt exhibit you never look at quilts in quite the same way again. It becomes easy to see how quilt making is a lot more than constructing a bed cover. If it were only about bed covers any fool could sew scraps together and be done with it!
Today quilts are very collectible and have become very expensive. The next time you walk past a bed topped with a quilt, look closely at the pieces of fabric and appreciate it's art and not just the bed cover you see.

I collect old quilts. I have about 50 total and some are really old and in good shape. I agree with you when you said....once a person has been to a quilt exhibit, you never look a quilts the same way. You should go to the exhibit and quilt contest at the Caldwell Kolache Festival. The exhibit's beauty will take your breath away! ybb

Hey LR: I bet you would not think that YBB would have this quilt interest, and there's a lot more good things about ybb that you'll never know........cause ybb does not like to brag like you do! ybb

I recenty attended a quilt exhibit in Dallas. There were 500 quilts from all over the world. All 500 were beautiful in their own way, however one from Africa was breath taking!
