You Decorate Your Tree I'll Decorate My Tree

Once again Christmas has come and gone. This year I did not hear much about the "War on Christmas". Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq along with high unemployment in America seemed to push the "War on Christmas" to the back burner. Christmas is a religious holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus but there are people other than Christians living in our mist. The Anti-Christmas soldiers choose their uniforms based on the holiday's ties to religion not because they hate Christmas Trees. I sometimes wonder if Santa would even stop if he passed one of their soldiers who was stranded on Christmas Eve.
As an American I have the right to religious freedom no matter what religion I choose but the American government doesn't have such a right. The First Amendment clearly establishes the separation of church and state but you would not know that if you took a walk around the Texas State Capital. I am not going to lose any sleep over a few Christmas Trees on the Capital's grounds nor as a Christian I am not going to slit my own throat over a few tax payer dollars celebrating the birth of Jesus.
Our Founding Fathers understood that religious freedom and religious observance go hand in hand which give me the right to decorate a Christmas Tree any where I wish. Debating this point is really useless because in the last forty years I had only one Christmas Tree in my house and that tree was only there because my girlfriend at the time demanded it. Well she is gone and so is the tree and if the truth be known she should have gone before the tree did but I am a compassionate Christian so I kept both of them around at least for a little while. As much as she drank she lit up as bright as the tree did so I really got two for the price of one when it came to Christmas decorations that year so I should not complain.
"Forty years, What's your excuse" you say! Well I don't have any decorations, I threw them out with the girlfriend. The tree makes a mess and I am a neat freak so it's out of the question. I am part Jew and we don't celebrate Christmas. It's a money thing, there are trees everywhere why should I pay for one. Maybe I really am part Jew but I know one thing for sure. A Christmas Tree would be a lot cheaper than a new girlfriend so next year maybe I decorate a tree.
