The title refers to British Petroleum but it might as well refer to one Big Problem. British Petroleum is a company who promotes itself as an environmentally friendly company. What a joke that claim is! BP makes an annual profit of $20 billion. Does any one in their right mind think a company that size is going to place the public interest first? Hell no, it's the company bottom line first and screw every thing else!
The United States Government is demanding BP pay for all damages associated with the disastrous oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. You can safely assume BP's lawyers are already running damage control making sure BP does not have to pay one more cent than the $75 million the law requires them to pay. Businesses along the coast, all consumers and the American tax payer will in the end pay for this epic environmental disaster.
For years BP has been the poster child for one Big Problem. Only a few years ago their Texas City plant killed fifteen workers when an explosion at the plant almost incinerated a portion of Texas City Texas. The event triggered the United States Government to level a $22 million fine for safety violations at the BP plant. A few years before the Texas City explosion, BP's pipeline on the North Slope of Alaska caused the largest leak of petroleum ever recorded in that most fragile territory. When BP was forced to inspect the pipeline, it found sixteen miles of the Trans American Pipeline in such bad shape they were forced to shut it down. All this comes from a company who prides itself on protecting the environment. Shame Shame Shame!
It's becoming alarming evident that BP's corporate culture of in differences to safety and environmental issues are causing one Big Problem after another. There seems to be no end in sight and even worse, BP's problems are getting bigger and bigger.
Each time there is a problem such as the latest BP problem, the world flies into a tantrum and a hearing is held to rake the company over the coals. The hearings always make for real good shows but in the end the companies pays a fine and then goes on about their business. Companies like BP know Ad campaigns about corporate social responsibility are cheap so the companies don't fear public scolding by politicians who are usually grandstanding at any hearing that's convened at the public bequest. Companies like BP can and do contribute to the politicians next reelection campaign, ensuring the BP's of the world that the number of lashes sentenced will not be enough to cause death.
If it was up to me PB would never drill another hole in American waters or operate pipeline or refinery facilities anywhere in the world but I won't get my way because I need to fill my tank just like every one else does. God! I hate it when I'm part of the problem instead of the solution but that's life on this planet of ours.
Whatever the cost, BP should pay!
