The Tail That Wags The Dog

The economy has put together several quarters of positive traction.  Although a robust economy is not in sight I am happy with what I see so far.  Slowly but surely the Republicans are running out of things to blame the President for.  The poster child for the 1% seems to be focusing on the high price of gasoline.  You all know who I'm talking about,  Mitt Romney of course.  Maybe if his wife didn't drive two gas guzzling  Cadillacs,  gas for the rest of the 99%  would be a little cheaper but this come from a man who is putting a car elevator in the new house he is building.  Do you really think he gives a crap about the cost of gasoline!  Wake up America.
The conventional wisdom holds that if gas prices continue to rise to record levels it will chip away support for President Obama.  High gasoline prices will siphon billions from the pockets of consumers causing the economy to sputter.  The sound of such a siphon has the poster child and all who support him jumping for joy.  Rooting against America is not a smart jump.  That jump could utterly be a jump off a cliff with out even knowing it.  Besides, President Obama has noting what so ever to do with the high price of gas.  It is Big Oil that's doing everything it can keep oil scarce and their profits high  which forces the public to pay $4 a gallon.  Speculators bid up oil contract 2 years into the future, that should be against the law or at least controlled.  Foreign conflicts, dictators and cartels could care less if the average American can afford to drive to work.  Last but not least I blame the Republicans.   For a very long time they have let Big Oil wag the tail that puts and keeps them in office.
Let's face the facts.  The world will inevitably experience increasing oil prices because oil is a non-renewable resource that's getting scarcer and scarcer.  With only 2% of the worlds oil reserves, there is no way America can drill it's self out of this mess no matter who lives in the White House.  I laugh every time I hear a Republican chant "Drill Baby Drill".  But most of us know that's exactly what Big Oil wants and when Big Oil wants something their tail always wags the dog.  Simply put, the Republicans have put the profit of Big Oil above the welfare  of America.  If they harness their wagon to spiralling gasoline prices their wheels are going to fall off and someone just might cut the tail off their dog.
