People have a multitude of rights many of which are granted under the United States Constitution. But no where in the US Constitution's amendments does it state we have the right to drink lots of soda, eat junk food, gain weight and avoid exercise. I am certainly not a Constitution scholar but I'm pretty sure the City of New York has no legal right to ban sugar laden drinks larger than 16 ounces. New York City today Austin tomorrow what's next? Are the gate keepers of weight fixing to tell us we can't have that second scoop of Blue Bell ice cream or a large order of french fries with our burger?
Two thirds of Americans are over weight. Sip by sip, ice cream by the bowl and french fries at will, we simply can't control our urges. Our only hope is for science to rescue us by finding cures for obesity, heart related diseases and Type 2 diabetes. We tell ourselves to eat healthy with modest portions, cut back on sugar, salt, saturated fats and get more fiber into our diets but we usually don't stick to that plan very long.
Lets face the facts! Most of us need help or we are going to kill ourselves slowly but surly. But telling me I can't order a large order of fries with a double cheese burger or consume a 32 ounce coke on a 107 degree Texas summer day is a law I will not abide by even if it was an amendment of the United States Constitution. So I here by grant you the right to buy that next half gallon of Blue Bell ice cream, super size that next order of fries and stick a 3 liter bottle of coke between your legs. Just don't forget to hide the scales and leave your walking shoes in the closet when you leave the house.
