E mail, do you get too much of it? Have you said more than once "nobody uses e mail anymore"? Don't be too fast to say e mail has become dysfunctional and burdensome. I'll be the first to agree how stagnant it's format remained even while the rest of communication has surged ahead. The format email uses today has been around since 1982 and has not changed much since it's inception. Different e mail products have tried to do a better job but with the exception of G Mail by Google, most have settled into a life of complacency.. I have never felt overwhelmed by my inbox but then again I've never been in high demand. Lots of people get more e mail than they want to deal with but that's not the fault of the e mail system itself.
I have a clue for all those people who cuss the computer screen every time they open their e mail program. Switch to G Mail you will feel a lot better. If you don't want to feel as though e mail is sucking time from your so called perfect life get G Mail and use all the tools it offers.
The obituary for e mail won't be written for a long time but you will not be able to convince anyone under the age of 35 of that fact. People in their twenties don't see the need for person to person meetings, phone calls or e mail, they live in a world of texting. Most people in their 20's take days to return an e mail where as a person in their 50's return an e main in a few hours if not a few minutes. 120 characters a pop is all a 20 something requires to function at a blistering pace.
Without question e mail is lagging behind but I sill use it more than any other form of communication. It is such a universal communication tool. Almost everyone has an e mail address and every company has an e mail address. For that reason it is much more productive for people like myself who tend to ramble of a bit.
