911 Cairo Calling

The situation in Egypt spiraled out of control this week.  Hundreds were killed in the wake of Cairo Military's suppression of the Muslim Brotherhood.  After ousting the country's first freely elected President it looks as though the country's military has no intention of yielding power to any form of democracy.  The crackdown on dissenting  voices has been brutal leading one to wonder if a peaceful path to democracy is even possible.
America has called for restraint but those calls have gone unanswered.  Moving beyond those calls of restraint may be hard if not nearly impossible for America because the stability of the peace between Egypt and Israel is  America's number one priority in the Region.  An Egyptian government rooted in the Koran is not a style of government the United States of America can understand no less tolerate yet we are willing to send 1.5 billion dollars of military assistance annually  to Egypt no matter who's running the government.  At some point America must be willing to take  significant action other than trying to play both sides of the fence.  A stable government in Egypt is in America's best interest but at what cost?  America is the only remaining Super Power but do we need to answer every 911 call?
