Beavers and Ducks

Growing up in a fairly close knit  family I can't really remember any of us getting at each others throats or anyone's  throats for that matter.  We usually gathered around the dinner table at a precise time each day, carrying on conversations about the day.  As strong as my political,  religious  and social views are today, not once can I remember any of that stuff discussed around the family dinner table.  My whole family seem to always stay in somewhat of a no go zone when it came to discussing anything other than school work, play time or delegated chores.  Today's family's are much different.  The Leave It To Beaver families of the 1950's and 1960's have been replaced families of Duck Dynasty.
It seems the head duck of the Duck Dynasty clan ruffled a few feathers with his crude sexual references and views on civil rights. As much as I think the Duck Dynasty family members are a bunch of  inbred  hillbilly raciest the truth is I can see some of that stuff was hidden under my family table during the 1950's and 1960's.   So what if a few feathers are ruffled in today's popular culture.  Lots of Americans share the views of Duck Dynasty I just don't happen to be one of those Americans.
It's the same old thing over and over again "US against Them".  What would the Leave  It To Beaver families of yesteryear  do in today world?  Don't know and don't want to find out, I swim in a different pond. Season 5 of Duck Dynasty premiered Wednesday and the viewer ratings are in.  The 18-49 year old viewership dropped by 33% with the overall viewership dropping by 28%  It looks like a lot of people decided to get out of the duck pond and join me in my open minded pond.
