Predicting The Weather

February 2nd is Groundhog Day.  The groundhog is suppose to come out of it's burrow looking for it's shadow.  If the groundhog sees it's shadow we are suppose to have six more weeks of winter.  The idea of a groundhog acting as a weatherman is preposterous  That furry little groundhog is really looking for a mate not it's shadow.  Shadow or no shadow it only cares about sex and could care less about the weather.  I'm not about to let some sex starved rodent in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania tell me I going to freeze my ass off during the middle of March.
In Texas we do things a little different when it comes to predicting Winter's longevity.  We do use a representative from the animal kingdom  to tell us if we need to wait six weeks before we plant our gardens but at least it's not a useless rodent doing the predicting.
