A Taxing Matter

     It's that time of year again, Tax season has crept upon us once again.  If I've heard it once I've heard it a 100 times " nothing is sure but death and taxes " .  Paying taxes is the law.  If you don't pay what Uncle Sam wants he has the right to go after you and get what he is owed.   We all complain about taxes this time of year but we dare not pay them.
     Why is Uncle Sam withholding so much money from my pay check?  That was my question as a teen every time I got a hard earned  pay check.  Social Security, I understood  because I carried a Social security cart in my billfold but Uncle Sam had issued me no such card so why was he taking more money from me?   As a teen I took for granted schools, bridges, firefighters, military, police, and all the other services the government pays for with the taxes it collects.. All I wanted was beer money and to be able to spend my paycheck the way I wanted to not the way government wanted me to.
     Taxes are really about citizenship.  As a citizen one must do their part to pay the bills of the country and city where one resides.  Whether taxes are too high or low is not the point, it's the exercise itself that's the point.  Taxes can and usually are a pain in the ass but pay them we must.
