Cutting The Cord

Not having cable or satellite television since the early 90's, I decided to get with the rest of the world so I could watch football from September through January. Sling TV at $20 a month was my first choice.  In 2017 I used Sling which gave me three ESPN channels  to watch college football September through January. Then in February, canceled it because I watched very little else during that time period.  With football season over I had very little use for Sling. Fast forward to September 2018, it was time to sign up again but by this time Sling had increased it's price to $25..  With Slings limited sports offering and an extra $5 monthly DVR charge, it was time to look for a different streaming service.  After careful consideration I chose  You Tube TV at $40 a month which gave me about 60 channels, 20 of which are sports channels along with no cost unlimited DVR.  After using You Tube TV for five months I must say I've been extremely satisfied and it hugely exceeded my expatiation.
Here's my dilemma!  90% of what I watched on You Tube TV was  football so now that football season is over do I really need to keep paying for You Tube TV?  Do I simply cancel and renew it again next September when football season kicks off?  Money is really not the issue here.   Saving $240 for not having to pay for a streaming service  February through August is not a big deal.  If I signed back up for Sling's $25 month plan at least I would have three ESPN channels  giving me full access to the up coming NCAA basketball tournament but do I really want to pay $150 to watch that.  Looks like my best bet is to turn off You Tube TV on February 1 saving $240 then turn on Sling for one $25 month so I can watch the NCAA basketball tournament then cancel Sling and wait until September, turning You Tube TV back on..
It's not like I wouldn't have anything to watch if I chose not to pay for You Tube or any of the other TV streaming platforms.   I've been a Amazon Prime member at $119 a year for several years so Prime Video gives me an unlimited choice of video entertainment.  Along with Prime video I have a free Roku account where I get free video content.  Roku give me free 24/7 news with CBSN News and 24/7 sports news with CBS HQ Sports.  For free movies Roku gives me Walmart's Vudo, Tubi TV, Sony Crackle, Popcorn Flix, and Roku's own movie channel all of which are very good.  Roku has over 8000 channels most of which are free. One of those free channels I watch a lot is Pluto TV, it alone has over 100  video and music channels on it.  Last but not least I don't want to leave out my public library.  It gives me Free Acorn TV which consist of all the best of British Television.  If you've seen it on PBS it's on Acorn TV.  Plus, my local library has a vast selection of DVDs and the Library's Bookmobile will bring the DVD to my neighborhood several times a week.
After all this I still really have not decided what to do about this issue but at least I got a few more weeks to make a decision.
