Everyone is bored from time to time. The old saying "Bored Stiff or Bored to Death" rings true all to often but as long as the sound is not of the chronically nature, things usually work themselves out in a relative short period of time. Boredom is not likely to kill you but it can be a symptom of more serious issues. In my personal experience with boredom the symptoms were risky behavior, drinking and smoking, eating too much of the wrong food, work and a few other issues. I am not talking about parking in a no parking zone, drinking spring water, smoking tobacco, eating carrot sticks or hunting for a job.
Symptoms come first then boredom and then like clockwork depression arrives. You get bored with life, bored with work and last but not least bored will all the people around you. All these issues become very stressing, causing depression to bloom. I don't know which is worse boredom or stress so I do my best to eliminate both of them from my life. I do my best to never let risky behavior escape the doors of my mind. Attend AA meetings on a regular basis and don't smoke anything. Maintain a healthy weight and walk a lot. Try to deal with stress on a timely manner.
Bored stiff yes it hits me every once in a while but not near as much as it used to. I've learned to respect it's warning signs. When the caution light begins flashing I get up and get moving. I learn new things, visit new places and join new groups of people. Anyone can slay the multi headed boredom monster by paying attention to the sounds the monster makes when it comes lumbering through one's life. So get up, get moving and get off your pity pot.
