The catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico has caused lots of people to look at how being oil dependent could someday lead to the end of civilization on Earth. Big money from today's investment flow is starting to wonder if the risk to their reputation is worth the cost of that addiction. If the flow of big money away from Oil gains title-wave force, maybe just maybe the world can begin it's rehab in the fight against oil addiction.
The Gulf of Mexico gusher is nothing more than a present day Three Mile Island, Exxon Valdez, Lehman Brothers, Chernobyl or Enron. All of which were disasters of epic proportions and will still be toxic for years to come. Time after time we never seem to learn our lesson when it comes to humanity. When will we reach the turning point in history? It's time to shape up and get our act together. If we don't, we face the possibility of the extinction of a number of species not to mention deadly consequences to ourselves. When we are not willing to pay the price to save a few species will we be willing to pay the price for our own survival when the day comes? The answer is one that humanity has been asking for a long time.
Commonsense would tell you that industrial scale exploration of hard to reach oil is a disaster in the making so it's high time the world get serious about more expensive forms of energy that have a lower risk profile. Today we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel but a long tunnel it is. Laying the ground work for survival with forms of energy other than oil is a giant leap for humanity. The distant possibility of a world in balance with natural resources could be realized before the end of this century if we all think about our actions and their consequences. We must pave the way for future generations so they can live a more friendly way of life. Pavement made from the balance of natural resources not from the addiction of oil is the only path for human survival.
