A Star is Born

The Dallas Cowboys are by far the most popular team in the National Football League.  Partly because of hard work, winning five Super Bowls and maybe even being on the right side of geography.  Most of America loves the Cowboys and I am no different.  So when a weekend goes by without the Boys having a scheduled game, the usual NFL weekend seems kind of bland. With no Cowboy game this past weekend I got to thinking about the Boys and what has made them America's team.  Win or lose it seems to make no difference, there is just something special about them.
The Dallas Cowboys could have been just another football team but the stars seem to have aligned for them right from the start.  A big part of their stardom was a man named Tex Schramm.  He is the one who hired Tom Landry who coached the Boys for thirty years.

Mr. Schramm was the instigator of the League's biggest sideshow, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.  Mr Schramm got the Cowboys to hold their training camp on the west coast where he knew the media would follow the teams every move.  He was also persistent in getting the Boys to play in the Central Division.  With the Cowboys in the same division as the NY Giants, Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles, the east coast media would have to follow the Boys. So from the start, Mr Schramm had all of North America's media following the Cowboys from training camp to Super Bowl..

Another stroke of Tex's genius was hiring Gil Brandt as the head of player personal. For years the Cowboys were way a head of the leagues other teams when it came to drafting the best players and that was partly the reason for the teams five Super Bowl wins.

So who is the real star of the Dallas Cowboys?  Fans in their 20's and 30's  would say it's the present day owner Jerry Jones because they were not around during the 60's and 70's.  A billion dollar stadium with a state of the art video screen is the only thing a 20 year old knows about the Cowboy star. They associate Mr Jones, the builder of such a Roman like coliseum as the only star the Boys have ever had.

Die hard fans now in mid life now have children and grand children who follow the Cowboys.  But whether your 60 or 6 every one of the team's fans get radical during a game, telling the team how to fix it's problems.  The Dallas Cowboys could lose every game in a season and they would still be America's team. Their star will never fade it will only be reborn from time to time.

34-27 another loss. We need a new head. The cowboys have many stupid mistakes and Mr. Phillips just laughs and looks up in the sky! I'm still a Cowboy fan!
