Fast food choices used to be so so simple! When I was a child there was only king hamburger and one's choices if you were lucky were "with mayo or mustard" and as a teenager "with onions or without onions". Oh how the degree of diversity has changed. The choice of a disk of beef between two slices of bread will never completely go away but the broadening of our choices has opened up a whole new menu.
If the beef burger were ever to be voted out of office at Fast Food Nation the taco would surely take it's place. To put it simply, everyone loves a good burger so King Burger will keep it's throne for the foreseeable future. The taco offers a degree of diversity the burger can't compete with. Salsa and guacamole are only two of the many things the taco uses in it's attempt at complete domination of Fast Food Nation. A tip off to the speed of that future domination is the 6 AM hour every Sunday. Have you ever seen a drunk eating a breakfast burger after an all night-er? Of course not because they are all chowing down on breakfast tacos at that hour and counting the time remaining until they can buy more alcohol at noon.
I do like the taco and all it's diversity of chicken, pork, beef and fish but sometimes I just don't want any choices, a burger all the way is just fine. Such a simple choice can be a metaphor for madness but with mustard and onions that madness can be a shear delight.
May Tex Miller rest in peace!!!
