Whats for supper tonight? Is your left over turkey organic or regular? Are your veggies imported or locally grown? Will you stop and pick up fast food burgers on the way home from the family Thanksgiving dinner and forgo cooking all together? We have more choices than ever but we are beginning to question all of them and trust them even less. It all started with fresh produce then spread to dairy, meat and bread products. For a small group of people, mass produced foods are a no-no. These people complain about the effects on the environment that mass produced foods cause. They say it uses too much fossil fuel to transport the food and they complain about the treatment of the animals before and during slaughter. Well to Hell with these people. I am not going to til a garden, collect eggs from a hen house, put a cow in my front yard or raise a flock of turkeys. It's hard for me to imagine a single parent or a busy two career family taking up animal husbandry, hoeing weeds between the tomato plants or digging for sweet potatoes just so they can say their Thanksgiving meal is not screwing the environment. Oh I know families who grow tomatoes in their flower beds but that just because their too lazy to plant and water flowers. And yes I also know families who run a few head of cattle but they don't put the beef on the dinner table, the cows are only there for the Tax deduction that comes along with them. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for protecting the planet and trying to shrink my carbon footprint. I'll turn off lights when not in use but I will not take shorter, colder showers. If my produce has a few bugs on it from time to time, well a bug or two never hurt anybody. I said I was willing to do my part!
If I want organic or home grown food, I'll make a trip to my local Farmers Market or walk down the isle of the over priced locally grown section at my local supermarket. Life is much more than food. I will not allow myself to be stirred by fads or a marketing campaign. Lets see! Stirred not Shaken, would that be organic or not?
The heck with that organic crap! Just let me eat the bruised and buggie veggies, I've been eatting it for 52 year and I feel fine. And by the way... more turkey and dressing is OK by me! ybb
