A Skunk Can't Change The Color Of It's Stripe

When a political makeover is called for changing the tie, getting a different hair style or adding a few words to the vocabulary won't do the trick.  When the Republicans lost the election in November it should have been a wakeup call for them.  It certainly seems they did not hear such a call.  Their deficit reduction plan indicates they have decided not to change a thing even after the overwhelming majority of American voters voted against then not once but twice in four years.  This really brings to mind the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Sadly, I don't think the Republicans will change anytime soon.  Instead of rewarding confrontation and division,  compromise may be the only winning hand they can play if they want the public to accept their political makeover.  Whatever the Republicans do, it's going to be real hard if not impossible for the growing demographic of voters ever to accept the current Republican product.  The three stones planks that ruled the party's platform for years have been replace by an attack mode from the Tea Party.  All the Tea Party does is make the 1% look even worse than they are while promising everyone else a gun for their pickup truck.  I hate to tell the Republicans but there are not enough Billy-Bobs driving pickup trucks to haul the Democrats out of the White House.  We could see a slight tempering of Republican rhetoric come election time but not much will change.  When something stinks it stinks!
