Thanksgiving weekend is always a hectic time. Everybody is so busy thinking about everything they need to due during the holiday. For someone like myself, it's time to make mental list of every place I need to be and everything I want to get done. Don't really know why it's so important that everything goes off without a hitch I guess that just my personality. Nothing is set in stone except for setting down to Thanksgiving dinner at a hostess prescribed time. Making sure I complete that mental list of checking road conditions and construction delays before hitting the Hwy for that Turkey dinner ensures a second helping of cornbread dressing and I do like cornbread dressing! I'm just thankful I don't have to cook that meal but then again I don't get any leftovers either.
The Thanksgiving table is not only about the food placed upon it. Getting together for Thanksgiving may bring to mind turkey, football and giving thanks but it's really about family and friends. Being with people you love is really what makes Thanksgiving special. Every family has a collection of characters who's personalities are as varied as the number of days in the year. I'll be the first to admit to being a little dysfunctional during more that one Thanksgiving holiday. Resentments, anxiety and anger filled my Thanksgiving dinner menu not to mention the thought of how soon could I get out of there. It took a long time , a very long time before I truly accepted the old saying "Blood is thicker than Water".
It's not 1950 anymore and none of us should believe our families belong in an episode of Leave It To Beaver or Father Knows Best. We should all be grateful for everyone and everything in our lives and give thanks for every character and personality setting at the Thanksgiving table
