I'm Not Cheap I'm Thrifty

I've never called someone's couch my home but I've sure slept on a few blowup mattresses.  I always bought the cheapest booze and never went to a happy hour unless free food was involved.  Even today I refuse to pay for entertainment but then again I live in Austin, the free entertainment Capital of the World.  Does all this make me cheap?  No it makes me thrifty!
Living on my own since the age of 17, I  learned the meaning of cheap I mean thrifty early in life.  Paying the rent, the electric bill and car expenses are fairly consistence but food is a whole different plate.  Your eyes are always telling you something looks good and damn the cost.  There is nothing about the rent, electric bill or car expenses that looks good but a food item I've recently rediscovered looks better and better every day.  If your at least 50 yeas of age you probably have not eaten a bowl of Ramen noodles in 30  years.  That's certainly  the case for myself but  I've recently rediscovered how good those little bricks and their flavor packets are.  During my 20's I bought Ramen noodles by the 36 count case  paying less than $3 a case.  Today a 36 count case cost almost $6 but that still  makes a lot cheap, I mean thrifty meals.  There are whole restaurants devoted to the Ramen but they are never going to serve a bowl for 17 cents.  You need to cook the noodles at home to get that thrifty feeling.
I am not ashamed to say "Ramen noodles played a part of my lifestyle during the 1970's".  Although I don't have a closet full of the instant noodles anymore I still love those bricks of goodness.  Today it's a lot more convenient to use a microwave to cook the noodles than the hot plate next to the blowup mattress I used in the early 1970's.   Back then I could roll a joint and  smoke half of it before the Ramens were ready to slurp. So if you see me slurping on a bowl of Ramen noodles today you can call me cheap if you want to but I know what your really thinking.  Your thinking, I wished I was as thrifty as he is.
