No More Vietnams

The White House has announced plans to send another 1500 troops to Iraq which  probably really means 4000 troops when all the support staff  are figured into the equation.  No one really thought US jets pounding the Islamic State would end the threat in the Middle East.  Still, everyone or almost everyone wants to blame President Obama for the current situation in Iraq and Syria but their blame is misguided.  Those blame-ers are just trying to defend the previous administration policies that got America into this mess in the first place.  America is never going to come to a consensus on this matter  but it's wise to remember what happened in Vietnam and not repeat that mistake.  Today's America is a different place.  Unlike the Vietnam from 1965-1972 or even Iraq in 1990 and 2003 today's  American public  has a hard time getting behind any kind of military intervention whether for moral threats or security threats.
The same people who pushed America into both Gulf wars are now the biggest cheerleaders for plunging America into another war in the same place.  Don't misunderstand my words, I don't think we should let the Middle East burn while we watch those bonfires from the safety of our shores but I sure don't want another Vietnam.
