In 1973 there was an oil crisis which produced gasoline rationing in America. There were long lines at every gas station and one would see out of gas signs in the stations windows all the time. Even worse, the government implemented a system of odd and even letters. This meant the last letter of you car's license plate determined on what days you could buy gas. During those time gas was around 37 cents a gallon, yes I said 37 cents. Before the crisis ended the price had spiked to 42 cents and everyone thought OPEC was out to destroy the world. Buying my first car in 1971, the oil crisis of 1973 and again in 1979 was a rude awaking for me. One can only dream of 37 cent a gallon gas but I'll settle for $2 a gallon for the next couple of years.
Thursday May 21 2015 I paid $2.37 per gallon for gas
