Recovery 24-7

I can still remember when I was deep into alcoholism.   Darkness and isolation is what I preferred so I could drink when I wanted to.  This mentality and mindset lead me to believe no one knew how bad the disease had gripped me but boy was I wrong.
Lots of people all over the world are  alcoholics but few find sobriety.   Some attempt sobriety and even achieve it for shot periods of time but the likelihood of the alcoholic returning to the bottle is about 90%.  I am one of those 10% who have been able to keep the bottle at bay.  Sobriety went from a few days to a few weeks to a few months to a few years and now a lot of years but I never lie to myself, I'm addictive to anything that will change the way I feel.  So when I say I am one of the lucky one's I truly mean it.  Every day one hears about another overdose, suicide caused from addiction or a drunk driving death.  Addiction takes way to many lives
Weakness and poor self control are usually the stigma tied to addiction but addicts know that's far from the truth.  There are almost 25 million Americans addicted to drugs and or alcohol of which 25% receive treatment.  With a 10% success rate of long term sobriety, my almost 17 years of continuous sobriety qualifies me as one of the lucky ones.
