The Effectiveness of Fear

The Republicans are up to their same old tactics, fear managing.  If you watched the first night of the Republican convention this week you know what I am talking about.  The GOP is as predictable as the sun rise.  They exploit tragedy, telling everyone America is going to hell in a hand basket unless they are elected.  They never try to defend their policies with substantial facts.  They try to make the Democrats look bad but they don't fool me.  All they every say is "we need to get tough".  What the hell do they mean?  Are they going to send another half million soldiers to the Middle East like the last two Republican presidents did?  The only thing that did was to break our economy because the last two Republican administrations failed to fund the war.  Oh did I mention the Middle East was left in shambles after each war because the Republicans had no plan or clue what to do after they declared victory.
It would be a mistake to discount the effectiveness of the GOP's fear rhetoric.  Plenty of voters hear the words "get tough" which drives them to the polls.  What I hear is Richard Nixon all over again.  The Republicans will do everything possible to make this election a referendum of fear but that should not surprise anyone.
