Crackers or Saltines as we call them in the South have been around for a very long time. Crackers of one kind or another were consumed long before there was even a United States of America. They are a humble food that both the poor and rich eat. Unlike today's modern
smacks they go with just about anything and that makes them very popular. The cracker can be topped with anything, My two favorites toppings are peanut butter and cheese. If I'm eating a bowl of chili, soup for half dozen of tamales, crackers are a must. Every once in a while I'll use crackers for a topping of a casserole or a breading for fried meats. However one consumes the versatile cracker they should be in ever ones pantry
