The hot dog is one of America's favorite foods.. Billions are eaten every year, most between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The largest consumption day is National Hot Dog Day which was last week. Most years I stop at a Sonic drive-in for their dog special that day, a chili cheese hot dog for 99 cents. On that day it was 107 degrees at my house so I really did not feel like making the 40 mile round trip to Sonic so it was no dogs for me on National Hot Dog Day.
About a week before National Hot Dog Day a hot dog battle began when Costco Wholesale Club decided to drop their $1.50 quarter pound polish hot dog and drink combo from their food court menu and replace it with some kind of bowl of healthy food. Costco members were outraged and soon began flooding the Internet with complaints but Costco held it's ground and said "no more polish hot dogs for you". When Sam's Club heard about all those complaints Sam's said "we've been trying to beat Costco for a very long time and now this is our chance, we'll beat Costco one hot dog at a time" On Monday Sam's Club began selling a quarter pound polish hot dog for 99 cents. A drink is extra but I never liked the fountain drinks anyway so two quarter pound polish hot dogs for $1.98 is a heck of a meal. To make the trip to Sam's even better I also pick up one of their 3 pound roaster chickens for $4.98. That's a lot of food for $6.96. I hate to think a 99 cent quarter pound polish hot dog will keep me renewing my Sam's $100.00 membership every year but it just might. I guess that means I'll have to eat 101 Sam's 99 cent polish hot dogs every year to get my $100.00 membership fee back. I don't think that will be a problem.
