Around the first of every year Sam's club sees a flood of new memberships. The new members expect to get a full years of savings and other advantages that comes with their new membership. What they don't think about is you only save if you use that new membership on a regular basis. If you rarely go to the store it will take you forever to recoup the cost of your new membership. If you have to force yourself to go to the store, the newness of that new membership will wear off quickly.
Sam's has two levels of membership. The basic membership is $45 annually. The Sam's Plus membership is $100 annually. For years I had the basic membership but last year I up graded to the Sam's Plus membership. The Sam's Plus has a few more perks than the basic membership one of them being free shipping on almost everything in the store and Sam's on line inventory. Since a round trip from my house to Sam's is 52 miles, the free shipping alone pays for my $100 annual fee.
So is a Sam's club membership worth it's cost? In my case it is. Here's my break down of savings for 2018. $86.75 Instant Savings ( extra money off, Sam's product specials every month )
$93.93 Cash back check ( for using the Sam's Master Card)
$10.00 Cash back ( spending at least $500.00 at Sams in 2018 )
$155.00 Gas savings ( A 52 round trip to Sam's take 2.5 gallons of gas. 28 items shipped instead of having to drive to Sams )
$252.00 Free shipping's savings on 28 items ( $9.00 per item )
$297.00 The across the board saving at Sam's is 33% At Costco it's 30% At BJ's its 29%. I spend around $900.00 annually at Sam's ( 33% of $900.00 = $297.00
My Sam's saving total for 2018 was $894.68. Not bad for spending $100.00 for a Sam's annual membership. If I were buying for an average family of four instead of just myself, one could multiply the savings several times.
