The Gold Medal for Snowman building goes to

The Olympic Charter says "Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in balanced qualities of body, will and mind. The goal is a place, a sport at the service of harmonious development of man, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity".
Do not let the Olympics PR machine fool you, it's all about money. In 1960 CBS paid $50,000 for the rights to air the Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley Calif. In 2006 NBC paid $613 million for the rights to air the Torino Olympics. The only way the Olympics can command that much money is to have 84 different events so television can televise the games for two weeks. The integrity of calling the Olympics a true sport has been gone a long time.
Snowboard was added durning the last Olympics and Snowboard cross was added this year. If I wanted to watch Snowboard halfpipe I would just go to my local park and watch teen-e-boppers on their skate boards. I can just image what Snowboard Cross will be like, a bunch of 20 something year olds sliding down a mountain bumping into each other and wrecking all over the place. I watch that all the time, it's called Nascar.
What is the criteria for an Olympic sport? The Winter Olympics were much better when there were only seven events. Bialthon, Bobsleigh, Ice hockey, Luge, Skating, Skiing and Curling, well maybe curling. The Olympics will add Ski Archery and Ski Orienteering to the next Winter Olympics. Ski Orienteering is a race where the skier uses a map and compass, give me a break! What is going to be next? I know, what about Snow Tug of War. Surely television can convince a rope maker to buy commercial time.
Sports are seldom cut from the Olympics once they are included in the games. The Olympic committee should vote sports out as easy as they vote them in. If the Olympics were about sport in the truest sense of the word, curling and ice dancing would have been gone a long time ago. Snowboard and freestyle skiing would never have made it past one Olympics.
I should just stop complaining, the Summer Olympics are just around the corner and they have 300 events compared to the 84 events of the Winter Olympics. I am on pens and needles, I can't wait till I can watch the Summer Olympic event of Race Walking!
