The Party's Over

Political conventions are really just political theater these days. This year the theater opened up in St Paul and Denver with two very different dramas. The Democrats used the theater to tell the national story. The disastrous war, fragile economy, health care, energy cost, college for our children, equal pay for women, gay and lesbian issues, tax cuts for the poor are all issues that were pitched out with the Republican bath water. The Democratic drama let us see just how dirty that bath water really was. The Republicans on the other hand staged an elaborate fraud, the purpose of which was to divert the public attention from the disastrous mismanagement of government and to deceive voters about their agenda. All they seem to do was engage in a gargantious bashing of their opponent, never speaking of national issues. I'll give the Republicans credit, they sure know how to use old tactics to scare voters when they don't have any fresh ideals. They know how to make a big election out of small issues and can portray their opponent as someone to run from.
This election should be about issues but more and more it's looking like it's all about a composite view of what people think about their candidates. Has it really boiled down to a woman Governor who can shoot a gun and field dress a mighty Moose? I have eaten Moose and I liked it but there is more to running America than putting a Moose in your freezer! Besides, in Alaska there are more Moose than people so who cares what really goes on in Alaska only the Moose do! If the Republican Vice Presidential candidate really wants a new job maybe she should apply to Texas Parks and Wildlife, she could be in charge of the Moose department. No, Texans better not let that happen because that Republican Anna Oakley would turn Big Bend National Park in to a retreat for the super rich and ban meat for anyone who makes less than five million dollars a year. Like I said before " I've eaten Moose and I liked it" so I could certainly survive on Moose burgers if I had to but I am not about to move to Alaska to be part of the Republican Shangri-la.
