Bring The Boys Home

     10 years of fighting, 1500 American lives lost and 450 billion spent, it's time for the United States to leave Afghanistan.  I agreed with President Obama's decision to bring home 10,000 troops now and another 23,000 by September 2012.   After September 2012 the pace of troop withdrawal will continue until all US troops are out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014.
     Al Qaeda has been pummeled beyond belief and most of their leaders have been killed. The Taliban have suffered serious losses and are starting to come to the bargaining table.  Even so, Afghanistan will never be a perfect place.   I wonder if staying another three years will better the chances for a Country that has been governed by warlords for much of recorded history.
      With  America  war weary and given the current economic landscape and the ever changing political winds,  it citizens are not going to support the Afghanistan cause much longer.   It's time to bring the boys home.  President Obama's announcement  of a 33,000 troop withdrawal is a start but it's not enough.  We are only delaying the inevitable.  Afghanistan will soon be in the hands of it's own people.  It is time we stop prolonging the Afghan peoples agony and let them do the best they can.
