Walking through the University of Texas Campus you will see yellow emergency call boxes . There are just under 200 of these boxes with their blue lights Most of the use of the boxes comes from students who art lost or a press of the button as a prank. Activating one of these emergency call boxes for a non emergency is a class B misdemeanor punishable up to 180 day in jail and a fine of $2000 They were installed on campus before the world of cell phones had arrived. Now days, the call boxes are a lot less essential to campus safety but their perception gives a feeling of safety in the area where they are located. I pass them all the time as I walk the campus but I've never seen one of them in use. Maybe that's a good thing, at least I know my surroundings are safe. I do like the blue light on the top of each box, It kind of reminds me of a space ship. The University of Texas is a world unto it's self so maybe the boxes were really put on campus by aliens
