A Lot Of Hot Air

I'm not the best cook in the world but I can throw a meal together when I want to.  I do pretty well with a skillet, crock pot, microwave or oven and mainly stick to the basic foods.  About a year ago when Air Fryers became all the rage I thought such an appliance  might be just what I needed.  Hot air zipping around food and cooking it to a crisp sounded like a healthy no mess way to cook all the frozen french fries I enjoy.  Was this appliance too good to be true?  When I saw one at Sam's for less then $40 I didn't think twice.  Usually Air Fryers are at least $80 so I figured I could spend the $40 I saved on frozen french fries.  The first thing I did after getting home with the Air Fryer was to throw half a bag of frozen fries into the thing.  That first batch of fries turned out way to crispy, I could not even cut the fries with a knife.  After adjusting the cooking temperature and cooking time, the second batch the fries were unevenly cooked, some were crispy some were barely cooked.  By the third batch of fries they were much better, almost as though they had been cooked in the oven.  This experiment had turned out to be  much more trial and error than I had bargained for.  The $39.98 bargain looking like buyer's remorse.  Lets just say I'm glad I didn't use the $40 savings to buy $40 of frozen french fries.  I guess like any appliance there is not always an exact science to using them.  After about a week I decided all the hot air wasn't for me and took the Air Fryer back to Sam's for a refund
