Fried Potatoes

Tomorrow is National French Fry Day.  I'll bet you love french fries as much as I do.  Yes they are fried and salty, two things your doctor tells you to stay away from but boy are they good.  Don't pay any attention to your doctor.  If you need an excuse just tell yourself they are a good source of potassium.   I never need an excuse when it comes eating  fried potatoes.  Whether eaten alone, paired with a cheese burger or even topped with chili and eaten with a fork, these hot, crispy, salty snacks are one of America's favorites.
Lets clear something up right now.  French Fries did not come from France, they came from Belgium.  Today, french fries are eaten and enjoyed all around the world.  The average American eats 30 pounds of fried potatoes every year.  That sure seems like a lot.  I really love fries but 30 pounds a year, I don't know about that.
Over the last couple of weeks I've eaten fried potatoes at McDonald's and Chick-fil-A.  McDonald's fries were the best although the Chick-fil-A waffle fries were really good.  Realistically there was no clear winner but that's because I'm a purist.  If I'm going to eat fried potatoes I want them long and slender not the size of a 50 cent piece with holes in them.   That being said, I eat more frozen french fries than any other fries.  My favorite frozen french fry are the seasoned fries from HEB.  I usually buy several bags at a time.   Now that I think about it, I probably do eat my 30 pound share every year.
