Trump on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial fronted by tanks and fly overs of America's finest military airplanes. My first thought "this event is going to be a stunt to prop up the President's ego". I debated long and hard as to whether I was even going to watch Trump's Spectacle but in the end I put away my disgust for the President and watched the whole thing.
I'll have to give the President a little credit, he didn't hijack Independence Day the way I thought he would. He did not trample the long standing tradition of keeping the holiday none partisan. Yes there was a braggadocios theme of military might but at least the President didn't talk about bombing some country to smithereens. America is not North Korea or the Soviet Union, we don't need to convince any human on Earth we could squash them like a bug if we wanted to. The President didn't play politics with his speech, something he's famous for and that surprised me. He pretty much stuck to the red white and blue. I just hope we don't have to view another Trump Spectacle next Fourth of July, only three months before the 2020 presidential elections. Mr President I want to know just one thing. Did you eat hot dogs on the Fourth of July like all the rest of us schmucks? Hot dogs, chips, watermelon and Trump, I guess America will survive another year.
